Third grade teachers will be able to explore innovative technology strategies and projects that can be integrated into each unit of the Social Studies Curriculum. Students will be able use different learning styles and multiple intelligences by completing higher ended questions. They will create various multi-media programs to produce digital storybooks, non-linear PowerPoint presentations, brochures and catalogues in Publisher and, brainstorm ideas and improve writing skills using Inspiration and Kidspiration. Teachers will use on-going authentic assessments to evaluate the students, such as rubrics, checklists, skits/plays, and presentations.

Process to Develop the Website

  1. Researched various techniques and strategies to differentiate instruction in the classroom.
  2. Selected the Third Grade Social Studies Curriculum that was written and posted on Balancedcurriculum.com
  3. Chose the 5 units from the Social Studies curriculum, enhanced and modified lessons (significant tasks) using technology, and applied different learning styles and multiple intelligences in each project.
  4. Analyzed several WebQuests and chose the quests that included higher-level questions and a detailed rubric/checklist for evaluation.
  5. Created several technology lesson plans and projects that was based on the Social Studies Curriculum.
  6. By using this website, students will have the opportunity to apply different learning styles and use various multiple intelligences by completing webquests and higher-order thinking problems. They will be able to work collaboratively or independently, choose a technology project that interests them, and use authentic assessments. Through differentiated instruction, teachers can implement diverse teaching methods and assessments to positively affect all students’ outcomes.
